Well, that’s it. Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy has ended. It really is the end of an era, and only 3 movies. How do I feel about the latest installment? FUCKING. AWESOME. Here’s the trailer if you SOMEHOW didn’t know this movie was out.
It’s been 4 years of anticipation since we all picked our collective jaws off the floor when we saw The Dark Knight, and I don’t know if there was anyone who wasn’t excited about this. It opened at 160 MILLION DOLLARS, making it the largest opening weekend for a 2D movie, and I don’t think that cash will stop flowing anytime soon.

So, the movie takes place 8 years after the events of the previous movie, and Bane launches into the flick with some serious ferocity. Tom Hardy is immense, the character is fantastic (if not a little hard to understand from time to time), and Nolan managed to make one of the more absurd and cartoonish Batman villains into something real, believable and terrifying.
We also get another great performance from Christian Bale, and to be honest, a couple of heart wrenching scenes between Bruce and Alfred (Michael Caine) will forever be in my brain. If you didn’t well up a couple of times, you should seek counseling.
I really don’t like spoiling movies when I review them, so I’ll just say this. Joseph Gordon Loveitt is great, and Anne Hathaway KILLED it as Catwoman. In my opinion, she is the Heath Ledger of this installment. Obviously, not to the same extent, but when she was announced people were definitely skeptical and upset and wah wah wah wah. Next time try and remember, Christopher Nolan does not get things wrong. There were also a couple of cameos that I loved, but won’t give away.
All around, I loved this movie, I am completely satisfied with how it all resolved and as far as I’m concerned, this is the LAST Batman movie. Even if they go ahead with the rumored 4th movie. I’m all finished, Nolan is all finished, and everyone needs to be all finished as well. Go see this movie. Immediately. It is dark, heavy, harrowing, and interesting all the way through.
My rating: *****
