Alright, finally a movie that I won’t be able to recommend enough to you guys. I saw Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, Prometheus! Here’s the trailer, which I really can’t imagine anyone hasn’t seen yet:
Right from the get-go I was in love with this film. It opens with some beautiful scenic fly-overs, and a really interesting scene which I won’t describe for risk of enraging spoiler-phobes. From there the movie delivers, very few drops in the pacing, and surprisingly violent for a 14A flick. Though, when you avoid language and sex, you can usually get a way with some extreme violence. The movie is focused mainly around Noomi Rapace (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and Michael Fassbender (Shame), though I’m sure you could argue that with me all day. Noomi plays a passionate scientist looking for the answer to the big question: “Who put us here?” . In what struck me as a kind of … commentary on God and how we’d really feel if we found him. Or maybe not. ANYWAYS! Noomi is great, and me being ignorant, I assumed she was all the way Swedish, but you’d never guess aside from a lingering accent.
Now onto Fassbender. He plays the android called simply David. Sent along on the mission by Weyland, as they always are. I really can’t say enough about his performance. If he doesn’t receive an Oscar nod, I will be extremely disappointed. It’s always a fine line when a human has to pretend to be a robot, and Fassbender got it right. The same way Ian Holme did in the first Alien movie.
The movie also stars an almost unrecognizable Guy Pearce (Memento), who I am a huge fan of, as well as Edris Elba from the AMAZING television show Luther, and honestly was everything I wanted it to be. It was intense, violent, entertaining, and answered some questions that I didn’t even know that I had. I would strongly recommend this to anyone who is even thinking about seeing it. I saw it with a friend of mine who couldn’t have cared less about Alien or any of it, and SHE loved it. How could you possibly go wrong? Also, there were some great trailers at the head of the movie including one for Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, which I could not be more excited for, and Oliver Stone’s next flick Savages.
Truly it’s shaping up to be an excellent summer for movies, and I can’t wait to see more and keep bringing you these reviews!
Check this movie out, I give it ****
