Album Reviews!

Ok guys, so I was thinking about this, and the fact is, I play (and listen to) a ton of music on my show. So I think it’s time I start reviewing. I have done… one music review in the early days of the blog for Childish Gambino’s album Camp. I’ll give all the albums a star rating out of 4 stars. So if you want to check that out, here’s the review. Now, lets move forward.

INDIE RELEASE

I’m a few weeks late on this one, but it’s time to let the world know what I think of …

CRIME & COMPASS

So, long time listeners of this show will know that these boys have been guests on the show, and I have played their music with deep enthusiasm. My enthusiasm continues for this newest installment from Anchoress. The album opens hard and continues to thrash and rock mercilessly through the 12 track album. There’s no denying that these guys are only improving on what was already an amazing sound and there’s really nowhere to go but up. This album comes at you furiously, fast, and hard and you’ll love every second of it. ****
Standout Tracks: Rumrunner Blues, Break The Dam Release The River

MAJOR RELEASE

Rize Of The Fenix

After the sadness that Pick of Destiny brought most of us, I’ve been nervous to listen to this album since it was announced. That’s the truth. Now that I’ve heard it, I’m not completely sure where I stand with it. It is funny, and it’s nice to have the D back. It just feels like they haven’t been able to recapture the majesty that was the self-titled album. That being said, support these guys and get the album. It is a huge improvement over the last one, and it does have some excellent tracks on it. The tough part is not comparing it to that first album, if you can listen to it on it’s own (which really is the best way to listen to anything) you’ll likely enjoy it.  **1/2

Standout Tracks: Rize Of The Fenix, The Ballad Of Hollywood Jack & Rage Cage

CURRENTLY ENJOYING

In this section, I’ll review something that I’ve been REALLY enjoying and listening to constantly. Be it a comedy album, or music album.

Impregnated With Wonder

Alright, so whenever I listen to a comedy album, I become concerned that the jokes won’t be as funny the second or third time I listen to it, and so I’m always nervous when I buy them. So, when I bought Pete Holme’s album, I was equally nervous. Though, now that I’m on my 20th or so listen to it, the jokes hold, and it’s absolutely wonderful. Pete is easily one of the funniest working comics right now, and I strongly suggest this album to everyone who loves comedy, and likes to enjoy their lives.  Or as Pete says, do things and feel happiness. ****

Standout tracks: Kid Bit, Magic Sound, Fun Dad
